To help bring jobs to people who may face barriers to employment, we partner with non-profits, educational systems, and training providers. 

Oftentimes the legal structure of their organizations prohibits them from placing their students or interns into jobs. That’s where we come in. Our partners utilise our EoR service to place their workforce into internships and work experiences but also to help build their pilot programs.

An EoR is an organization that serves as the employer for tax purposes, while the employee performs work at a different company.

Our Employer of Record Service (EoR)

The EoR takes on the responsibility of routine employment tasks such as:

  • Creating and maintaining employment agreements

  • Managing timekeeping and payroll

  • Ensuring compliance with employment and labour laws

  • Providing human resources services

Our EoR service helps you manage and organize all the important documents and information related to your employees. This can include personal information, employment contracts, tax forms, and complaints.

We have hosted over 220 interns and workers of all types since 2019; we know just what it takes to get the job well done!

Employer of Record Case Studies

  • In 2022-2023, Turning Basin Labs was awarded a grant from the New World Foundation to help put people to work. We used that funding to support our longtime partners, Jewish Vocational Services, assisting them with the placement of their IT students into paid internships.

    WHAT WAS NEEDED:

    Jewish Vocational Services needed assistance with the launch and development of their IT training and placement pilot, as well as employer of record services.

    HOW WE HELPED:

    Using the funding we received from the New World Foundation we funded the first cohort of their IT placements, as well as assisted them with their pilot development, and provided full Employer of Record services.

    IMPACT MADE:

    We funded 12 of the 37 ITs that we hosted as Employer of Record. Half of the first cohort of ITs were employed full time with those companies they interned.

  • In 2022-2023, Turning Basin Labs was awarded a grant from the New World Foundation to help put people to work. We used that funding to partner with JobTrain to assist them with the placement of their Building and Facility management students into paid internships at a local housing conglomerate — the workers worked in facilities management.

    WHAT WAS NEEDED:

    Jobtrain needed assistance with the launch and development of their training and placement pilot, as well as full Employer of Record services.

    HOW WE HELPED:

    Using the funding we received from the new world foundation we funded 2 cohorts of their placements, provided tool kits for each intern, assisted JobTrain with their pilot development, and provided full employer of record service.

    IMPACT MADE:

    We hosted eight workers in their paid internship, five of whom secured full-time permanent employment at the company they interned with. One worker even received on-site housing.

  • In 2021, Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) partnered with Kaiser Permanente to create a COVID-19 Mass Vaccination site at the UCSF Gymnasium.

    WHAT WAS NEEDED:

    JVS needed Turning Basin Labs to help coordinate back-office support, background checks, and full Employer of Record services. JVS provided interns as admin support and way-finders for the site. Kaiser supplied the phlebotomists and on-site supervision.

    HOW WE HELPED:

    We collaborated with JVS and Kaiser to develop a coordinated effort to hire, background check, and timekeeping for their program. We also provided full Employer of Record services.

    IMPACT MADE:

    TBL hosted 12 way-finder/admin interns for 8-10 weeks providing great work experience. Thousands of vaccinations were administered in those weeks. Read more about the project here from UC San Francisco.

  • In 2021, JVS referred Martinez Adult Education to us for Employer of Record services and pilot development. To this very day, our partnership remains strong as we continue to work together and come up with new ideas on how to break barriers to employment.

    WHAT WAS NEEDED:

    Martinez (a local community college) needed help with hosting their students in paid internships at local businesses in the Martinez area.

    HOW WE HELPED:

    We helped them develop the processes and back-office support to give them, the intern, and the employer a seamless experience. We also provided full Employer of Record services.

    IMPACT MADE:

    Martinez Adult Education has provided us with 6 excellent interns that we have hosted at different locations in Martinez, CA. One of them we recruited and has become a Worker-Expert serving on our corporate Worker Council.

Through Worker Research, we answer local questions of job quality and workforce systems and jobs that have a future.
